The term Reiki is frequently used in comprehensive and integrated circles, but the public might be at the sea about what it is and how it may benefit both our physical and emotional health. Reiki debuted 90 years ago in Japan, the home of the rising sun. During his lifetime, Mikau Usui imparted his Reiki expertise with almost 2000 individuals.
Reiki is gradually becoming a mainstay of therapy. It's commonly used as a supplementary therapy in hospices and is currently being used in many National Health Service hospitals across the UK, particularly on cancer and pediatric wards.
Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel this energy into the recipient, who is usually lying down and fully clothed. Negative thinking patterns of all types can disrupt the usual flow of this vital energy and involve channeling the energy to promote a wholesome well-being. Thus, it must be carried out in every part of our lives including our homes.
To practice Reiki at home, follow these steps:
- Create a calm and relaxed environment. Light candles, play soothing music, or burn incense to help set the mood.
- Sit comfortably and take a few deep breaths to center yourself.
- Place your hands on or near the areas of the body that need healing. You can start with your head, move to your arms and legs, and then end with your torso.
- Focus your intention on sending Reiki energy to the areas you are touching. You can use affirmations or visualization to help direct the energy.
- Keep your hands in place for several minutes, allowing the Reiki energy to flow.
- When you are finished, take a few deep breaths and ground yourself by visualizing roots growing from your feet into the earth.
- Comfortable seating or a massage table: A comfortable place to sit or lie down is essential for relaxing and receiving Reiki energy.
- Candles, incense, or essential oils: Soothing scents can help set the mood and create a calming environment.
- Relaxing music or nature sounds: Soft music or natural sounds can help create a peaceful atmosphere for Reiki practice.
- Blanket or shawl: Keeping warm can help you feel more relaxed and comfortable during a Reiki session.
- Reiki hand positions chart: A chart can help guide you through the hand positions used in Reiki and serve as a reference during your practice.
- Crystals: Some people use crystals during Reiki sessions, as they are believed to enhance the flow of energy.
Practicing Reiki at home has several advantages. Firstly, it offers convenience as you can receive its benefits at any time without the need to make appointments or travel to see a practitioner. Additionally, practicing Reiki at home can help increase self-awareness, as you become more attuned to your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
